Winter Solstice at World Cafe

22 12 2008

I never knew Philly had such a strong folk scene. Never in my entire life. Sure we got Milkboy and Tin Angel, but I thought that was for national acts.

I’m an idiot.

I promised Christina from As Human that I’d come check out the show at World Cafe, which was a fund raiser for Liveconnections.org, World Cafe’s children’s music program. I went and was EXTREMELY impressed with what I saw.

Check out:

Levee Drivers – Cash, The Boss, and Ray Lamontagne mixed

The Great Unknown – bluegrassy folk with a drummer

Hezekiah Jones – I knew him already but he’s the man so I added him anyway

Sisters 3 – these 3 who are actually sisters would fuck up the Dixie Chicks anyday with their 3-part haromonies

Birdie Busch – fun, folky, bluesy roots tunes

I left the show at 10:45 because I slept 3 hours last night in New York after the Lake Trout show, which was completely badass, especially since I went with my old college housemates. I wish my body had more in me, but I don’t and I need to sleep.
