5 New Bands (10/5)

5 10 2009

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros -  AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING.  Breath of fresh air.  Happy, organic, authentic music with a full, poly-rhythmic, soulful, folk sound.

El Guincho – The Animal Collective of Spain…interesting and entertaining to say the least.

Blakroc -The Black Keys + Mos Def, RZA, Pharoahe Monche…and every other Brookyn MC, playing raw indie blues rock hip-hop.  I try not to think about it too much because I can’t even find a leaked version yet to listen to it.

London Souls – My roomie Arthur told me to come check them out at Brooklyn Bowl and HAD NO CLUE what I was going to get myself into.  The only way to describe it:  Jimi Hendrix Experience of the 21st Century.

Trent Dabbs – Met him randomly in Philly last Sunday at World Cafe Live with my friend Jordan and he gave us a CD.  Neither of us knew how amazing he would be because he stands out in a sea of boring and cliche singer-songwriters.  Check out “Your side now”

Being Your Own Label (A choice worth considering)

1 10 2009

Last year, I attended CMJ Music Marathon, which inevitably made me want to move to Brooklyn.

However, this year I’m fortunate enough to be running a panel called, “Being Your Own Label”.  It will take place on Wednesday Octover 21 from 3:30pm-4:45PM in Room 406 of the Kimmel Center (Click image to enlarge).
