This is me

Before the New Years, I sent a bunch of friends a long extensive email outlining everything I wanted to do for my birthday.  Most of them laughed because only I would do something like that, but in reality, it was the best birthday I’ve ever had.

On Monday, I started the new job and headed straight to dba afterward for a vodka tasting with my friends Gabe, Jackie, and Josh and Mark (2/5 of The Canon Logic).  Now I gotta mention that I AM NOT really a liquor fan, but I’m always open to try new things (almost) no matter what.  The most interesting was the organic tomato vodka.  However, I was disappointed that he couldn’t find a bottle of soy vodka.  I ended the night early because I knew the rest of the week would be overwhelming for me given how overly ambitious I can be.

Tuesday, aka my actual birthday, was a trip and a half.  I got some old and new friends in New York to come out to Brooklyn Bowl for drinks, food, bowling, and music (Real Estate).  The biggest surprise of the night was Mike Lassins from To Be A High Powered Executive.  The first show I ever booked was getting them to open for The Benevento Russo Duo, so it was great to reconnect with him.  Between the fried chicken, rock n roll fries, Brooklyn lager, and a bourbon nutella shake, I couldn’t bowl for the life of me, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t fun.  While we were bowling, Real Estate was playing and I was hearing A Ghost Is Born-era Wilco with an interesting beach vibe as well.  I’d see them again.  Feel free to check out some pics from the show here.

Wednesday, I went to Jimmy Fallon again.  Check out the video below to see me bob my head like an idiot.

After Fallon, I had a low key pizza night.  I was happy that Annie and Abbi could make it out.  Abbi got me black truffle oil, which helped me step up my pizza game even more.

On Thursday, I had planned on going to MOMA for the Tim Burton exhibit, but after a BBM from my friend Vanessa, I changed my mind.  I ended up going to the Vampire Weekend CD Release party at Spin and winning the ping-pong tournament with my buddy Alex.  He’ll claim it was all his doing, but I got skills too!

Friday, a couple friends from Philly came up to visit and we went to the Export Nola Fest at Sullivan Hall.  Big Sam’s set with Christian Scott and Will Bernard was incredible.  Amazing energy!

THEN Saturday came along and I had nothing in me.  I pushed myself to go to a private screening for Soundtrack for a Revolution at Tribeca Cinemas (thanks Sarena!!!).  Essentially the flick is about the music of the civil rights era, but they had contemporary musicians like The Roots, John Legend, and Joss Stone sing them juxtaposed to old footage and interviews.  It made the movie THAT much better by the fact that I was a row away from Harry Belafonte and Ruby Dee!!!   Drained from the movie, I had nothing left in me, but I told some friends I would go to their apartment in the West Village.  Long story short, it’s 2am and I get invited to the SNL after after party (which I didn’t know existed) and don’t get home til 630AM.

I woke up around 11AM, got brunch with my buddy Andrew in Brooklyn Heights, walked around a bit, made dinner, and finally PASSSSSED OUT around 9PM…all things considered, that was the best birthday yet.  So my 10 hours of sleep on Sunday was down right necessary!!!
