Since I graduated college I don’t think I’ve truly devoted a day to myself because it’s always been about other people, work, looking for work, or convincing myself that I have to be active and do something. But a ME day is essential for mental clarity, sanity, and overall well being.
So now you’re probably wondering what the catalyst was or what main reason led to this day of me. Basically, I didn’t get an extension on my contract with Oddcast, on which I won’t go into detail (I can explain to anyone who wants to email me). When I heard, I was irritated and disappointed at first and then began to understanding their point of view. However, I did leave amicably and they appreciated all the hard work I did for them.
These past few months I was doing too much for my own good and was wearing myself thin with lack of sleep from my three jobs, so on Friday I woke up, saw the snow, and decided to not go into the office for my last day of work. I spent most of the morning reading, writing, and forcing myself to think about these unfortunate life changes.
Going to the movies was something I used to love to do, but have only seen five since moving to Brooklyn last February, so I decided I wanted to see Shutter Island and I went with my friend Abbi (note: check out her new web series Broad City). I left the flick with a happy and hopeful demeanor despite the tone of the movie. I came to the conclusion that it was for the best that I have some time off and I should make the best of the next few weeks for ME. I need to reevaluate my priorities, catch up on sleep, regain passion for what I love, and address my anxieties, which have gotten the best of me lately.
After a few of hours of seclusion in my room, I relaxed over a avocado margarita (don’t knock it til you try it) and headed to my buddy Matt’s birthday party where I recapped the splendiferousness that is the ME day. One thing is for sure, I will be having them more often because life should never be too serious to not be able to give your self the attention it needs.

Billboard Music & Money Symposium
6 03 2010On Thursday, I spent the whole day talking about $$$, meeting interesting people, and tweeting for SoundCtrl, so thanks a lot to Billboard for my free pass (valued at $1200)!!! Also, I finally got to meet Alex White from Next Big Sound who I interviewed for SoundCtrl. It’s always great putting a face to a voice.
Another one of those interesting people was Shefali Kumar who conceived and developed Emotitones. Essentially, Emotitones is SMS text messages containing a 20 second clip of an actual song which is supposed to convey the emotion of the sender. Anyways, I told Shefali about FlashFwd on around 3PM on Thursday afternoon. She followed up with me on Friday afternoon around 4PM to say she started hustling for nominations and at 12:30AM she said she confirmed 50 nominations (note: she ended with 54). It’s that sort of dedication that drives a great idea into a successful execution. Regardless if Emotitones is a winner, please please please check it out.
Expect an in depth post about the conference Monday morning on the SoundCtrl blog (UPDATE: post is up). In addition, we announce the Flashfwd winners on Monday afternoon!!!
